Following news that defending men’s singles Wimbledon tennis champion Raphael Nadal has pulled out of this summer’s tournament due to a knee injury, the odds on either Andy Murray and Roger Federer winning the prestigeous event have shortened.

Murray triumphed at Queen’s Club two weeks ago, which is traditionally seen as a warm-up for Wimbledon, and began the week at odds as short as 5/2 with BlueSq.com, 888Sport.com, Ladbrokes.com, WilliamHill.com and ToteSport.com to win the men’s singles final on July 5.

These odds have now shorted to 7/4 with Bet365.com, BlueSq.com, 888Sport.com, Ladbrokes.com and WilliamHll.com while BoyleSports.com and VictorChandler.com are offering 15/8. Slightly longer, fans of the Scottish player can get 2/1 from ToteSport.com, SkyBet.com, Coral.co.uk, ExtraBet.com and StanJames.com or 9/4 from BetFred.com or PaddyPower.com.

The last British player to win the men’s singles competition at Wimbledon was Fred Perry in 1936 and SportingBet.com is offering Murray at odds of 11/4 to do the same followed by WBX.com and BetDaq.com with 16/5.

Swiss player Roger Federer was last year’s beaten finalist and began this week at odds of 10/11 with Bet365.com, BoyleSports.com and VictorChandler.com while ToteSport.com, BlueSq.com, PaddyPower.com, SportingBet.com, StanJames.com, 888Sport.com, Ladbrokes.com, ExtraBet.com and Coral.co.uk went with Evens.

With his main rival sidelined, the 27-year-old five-time Wimbledon champion is now listed at odds of 4/6 with Bet365.com, BlueSq.com, PaddyPower.com, 888Sport.com, StanJames.com, Ladbrokes.com and Coral.co.uk. ToteSport.com is offering punters 8/11 for a sixth Wimbledon title along with BoyleSports.com, BetFred.com, VictorChandler.com, SkyBet.com, WilliamHill.com and ExtraBet.com. Online bookies SportingBet.com and WBX.com have Federer at odds of 3/4 followed by BetDaq.com at 13/17.

Last week, Spanish player Nadal had occupied the third slot at odds of 3/1 with Bet365.com, Coral.co.uk and WilliamHill.com followed by 7/2 at BetFred.com, PaddyPower.com, Ladbrokes.com and ExtraBet.com. However, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic has now taken this place with VictorChandler.com, StanJames.com, Coral.co.uk and ExraBet.com showing odds of 10/1 followed by Bet365.com, ToteSport.com, BlueSq.com, PaddyPower.com and 888Sport.com with 11/1.
