New England Takes Down Atlanta In Wes Welker’s Return To Action
While the Patriot pass offense was up to its usual standard, the run game accounted for 120 yards and two touchdowns, including a 20-yard run by Sammie Morris in the third quarter.
On the other side of the ball, the Atlanta offense looked solid when the starters were in, that included quarterback Matt Ryan. Ryan threw for 76 yards on 8/13 passing for no touchdowns, but spread the ball around to several receivers.
The Falcons have been on of the top rushing teams in the league the last few years, behind a tandem of backs including Michael Turner. Turner saw limited action on Thursday night, but did finish with 32 yards on eight carries. Rookie Antone Smith out of Florida State carried the ball eight times for 44 yards. Atlanta’s lone touchdown came in the fourth quarterback when John Parker-Wilson tossed a 19-yard strike to Troy Bergeon.
Coming into the game, the Falcons were installed as a two point betting favorite on USA Online Sportsbooks, but the contest was dominated by New England. Despite Atlanta’s 10points, the game still went the over with 38 total points scored by the two teams.
