Dwan Challenge Continues, Just Over 10,000 Hands Remain

In January of 2009, Tom Dwan, one of the fastest rising stars in the world of poker, issued a challenge any and all poker players. His challenge was a proposition bet, a bet that stated that he felt he could beat any player heads up over 50,000 hands. He stated that he would lay $1.5 million of his money to the opponents $500,000, and to the victor would go the spoils – as well as the winnings from the heads up competition.

Dwan’s challenge had some stipulations. Play must be NoLimit Texas Hold ‘em or Pot limit Omaha. The stakes must be a minimum of $200/$400 on the blinds, and once decided upon they will remain the same for the entire duration of the challenge. Finally, no player may have less than 75 big blinds at any given time.

Patrik Antonius was the first player to accept the challenge. For months these two titans have been tackling each other at the tables, but the event has yet to finish. The two have played off and on in the last few months, and Dwan remains at the top of the charts.

So far, Dwan has won $2,059,719 from Antonius over 39,436 hands. Dwan has won 20,700 of these hands. A total of 5 days, 5 hours, and 59 minutes of playtime has been clocked over 64 sessions.

The most recent session took place on August 3rd, and their game last about 45 minutes before Dwan had claimed victory once again. In this small amount of time, Dwan had won $459,961 off of Patrik.

When these two combatants will finish the event is still undetermined. Both had take had taken a break during the 2010 WSOP, but now the games can continue. All of their action is taking place on one of the USA online poker rooms, and anyone can watch the event take place.
